Robert A. Danner Jr., 58, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 4:30 P.M. Friday July 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by family and friends after a year long battle with cancer. He was the oldest son of Robert A. Danner Sr. and Beveline (Powell) Danner. She survives in Danville.
A lifelong resident of Rossville, he attended Rossville Schools. He started working as a teenager mowing yards and doing odd jobs. The family business, "Danner Construction" started in 1972 with a truck, a shovel and a sledge hammer, tearing out sidewalks for the village's sidewalk program.
He married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Beckner on October 11, 1975, she survives in Rossville. He is also survived by one daughter, Kayla Danner of Clearwater, FL; one son, Robert A. (Erin) Danner III of Rossville; one aunt, Betty Ruggles of Clearwater, FL and his father-in-law, Gene Beckner of Hoopeston, IL. Also surviving are: one sister, Kathy (David) Brown of Bismarck, IL; two brothers, Mike Danner of Bismarck, IL and Darrell (Sheena) Danner of Rossville; two grandchildren, Macy and Alex Danner and 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Rob was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and served as past President of the Rossville Jaycees. He felt strongly about giving back to his community and was always lending a helping hand with his donations of time, money and equipment.
He felt strongly that voting was a duty and lived by his Conservative beliefs. Rob was an avid Nascar fan. He enjoyed restoring and showing antique cars and tractors, gardening, camping with friends and go-kart racing with his son.
He most treasured spending time with his grandkids-Macy and Alex.
