Elizabeth "Peg" Laverne Morgeson Matthews, 98, of Hoopeston, Illinois , passed away at 11:12 P.M. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Il. Peg was born September 29, 1914, in Rural Rossville to Walter and Ethel (Crusinberry) Morgeson. She married Delbert E. Matthews on August 12, 1933 in Hoopeston , IL.. He preceded her in death.
Peg is survived by a son Delbert W. Matthews (Lorene) of Melbourne, FL, and daughters Marilynn Vandenberg of Lafayette, IN, Carol Lantis of Hoopeston, IL and Margaret (Kenny) Greenberg of Rural Hoopeston. One sister Viola Diefenbaugh, of Melbourne, FL. Also, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 16 great- great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son Robert, a grandson Steve Matthews, one great grandson, T.J. Marko, and brothers Wilber, Virgil, Jim and 2 infant brothers.
Peg was a homemaker, who loved her home, gardening, cooking and she enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. She was a former member of the Warren Co. Home Ec. Club, former member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. A former member of the Ambia Church of Christ, and currently a member of the Chestnut St. Church of Christ.
