Robert A. Danner Jr., 58, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 4:30 P.M. Friday July 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by family and friends after a year long battle with cancer. He was the oldest son of Robert A. Danner Sr. and Beveline (Powell) Danner. She survives in Danville.
A lifelong resident of Rossville, he attended Rossville Schools. He started working as a teenager mowing yards and doing odd jobs. The family business, "Danner Construction" started in 1972 with a truck, a shovel and a sledge hammer, tearing out sidewalks for the village's sidewalk program.
He married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Beckner on October 11, 1975, she survives in Rossville. He is also survived by one daughter, Kayla Danner of Clearwater, FL; one son, Robert A. (Erin) Danner III of Rossville; one aunt, Betty Ruggles of Clearwater, FL and his father-in-law, Gene Beckner of Hoopeston, IL. Also surviving are: one sister, Kathy (David) Brown of Bismarck, IL; two brothers, Mike Danner of Bismarck, IL and Darrell (Sheena) Danner of Rossville; two grandchildren, Macy and Alex Danner and 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Rob was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and served as past President of the Rossville Jaycees. He felt strongly about giving back to his community and was always lending a helping hand with his donations of time, money and equipment.
He felt strongly that voting was a duty and lived by his Conservative beliefs. Rob was an avid Nascar fan. He enjoyed restoring and showing antique cars and tractors, gardening, camping with friends and go-kart racing with his son.
He most treasured spending time with his grandkids-Macy and Alex.

I've known the Danner's since 1975 when I moved to Rossville. There never was a better family to get to know, from Rob's dad, big Bob to each of his immediate family and siblings. If you needed something done, just call and they would be there. Rob was one of the most giving man I have ever known. It was a rarity not to see a smile on his face and a positive attitude. It rubbed off on you. Rich and I spend many happy times at Rob's park in our RV sharing good times with him and his family. We lived across the street from the construction company on Green street for a few years and if I couldn't find Rich, I knew where he was at. We could not have asked for a better friend and he will truly be missed by us. Marilyn, Robert and Kayla we cannot image your loss but as you said he was ready to go and no longer in pain. He'll always be looking down at us and his family to be sure we're moving on with our lives with a smile on our faces and a good attitudes in our hearts. Rob we love and will always miss you! I remember the day I moved up on the hill in the apartments across from the shop. He came over and welcomed me and said if I needed anything just let him know. My neighbor, Reva LLoyd and myself always looked out for the shop for anything going on that shouldn't be. He took care of us during the winter months to plow us out and make sure we were alright. Then, came the time I got a job at Rossville-Alvin. I had to move. I remember he said, " you will be back home soon and I will still be here. Years went by and I had the opportunity to come back to the hill. I had bought Ina Rife's house. One day I turned around and there he was giving me a hug and saying, "Welcome Home Neighbor!!
I knew you would be back." Yes, I came home now with my husband Ron. Both would talk all the time and then he would be off to work. In the last few months he would come over and sit awhile. He always had that great big smile!! Reva LLoyd has moved and Rob is gone, BUT I'll continue the
tradition of watching over the shop. He was a great man with many friends
that will miss him. We will miss him greatly!! God got another angel!!
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Danner family. May God be with them
at this difficult time.

Little did I know the first day I walked on the job site as project engineer wearing one of my loudest Hawaiian shirts and sporting my California attitude in Hoopeston 25 years ago, that day would have been the start of an enduring personal and professional relationship. Rob, it has been my honor working with you and knowing you as a friend. You are one of the good guys and I will miss you dearly. Take care my friend. We'll have more stories to share we meet again. I have hundreds of memories, way too many to list. All were fantastic, if you were feeling low and down and out , all you had to do was drop by the shop and you would be back to 100% again. The only bad memory I will have is losing a very good friend!!!

Rob & I were friends from Kindergarten thru 5th grade when we moved to Hoopeston. We did a lot of stuff together, some I am sure our parents were glad they never heard about.
Till we meet again old friend.

Robert seemed to always have a smile on his face back when I was young and around the shop(with my grandma Ina house across the way & my father being Nate). He was nice man and will be missed as God has another angel. May God bless the Danner family and friends through this time of loss.
